How To Crochet One and Only Granny Square

This unique granny square has one perforated triangle and other 3 triangles are solid.

I am totally obsessed with granny squares right now and wanted to make a granny square crop top. So here I am presenting the one and only granny square halter top !

This is a beginner friendly pattern. The only stitches one needs to know are the basic stitches, that is -single crochet, double crochet and triple crochet for this pattern.

Difficulty level – Beginner

The pattern is written using US crochet stitch terminology. Here hook size 4 mm (US G/6 or UK 8) is used. The tension is 22 single crochet x 30 rows = 10 cm/4” in width and 10 cm/4” height. The size of one square is 16 * 16 cm or 6.3 * 6.3 inch.

To make this granny square you will need following material

  • Cotton DK weight yarn
  • Hook- 4mm
  • Scissors
  • Markers to mark important stitches
  • Yarn needle to weave in the ends

Step by step pattern instructions

  • This granny square pattern is a no turn pattern. With 4mm hook, CH4, SL ST to join into the first CH to form a ring.
  • Step 1- CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); 2 DC into ring; *1 TR into the ring followed by 3 DC into ring*; repeat * to * one more time ; CH 2, 3 DC into ring ; CH 2, SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH made at the beginning.
  • Step 2- CH 3; DC into next 2 ST; (2 DC, 1 TR, 2 DC) into corner TR ST; DC into next 3 DC; (2 DC, 1 TR, 2 DC] into corner TR ST; DC into next 3 DC; ( 2 DC, CH2, 3 DC) into next corner 2 CH-SP; CH 1; ( 3 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC;] into last corner 2 CH-SP; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH made at the beginning.
  • We can now see 3 solid triangles and one perforated triangle in the square.
  • Step 3- CH 3; DC into next 4 ST; (2 DC; 1 TR; 2 DC) into corner TR ST; DC into next 7 DC until next corner; (2 DC; 1 TR; 2 DC) into corner TR ST DC into next 7 DC until next corner; (2 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC] into next corner 2CH-SP; CH 1; 3 DC into 1 CH-SP; CH 1; (3 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC] into last corner 2CH-SP; DC into last 2 ST; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH made at the beginning.
  • Step 4- CH 3; DC into next 6 ST; (2 DC; 1 TR; 2 DC) into corner TR ST; DC into next 11 DC until next corner; (2 DC; 1 TR; 2 DC) into corner TR ST; DC into next 11 DC until next corner; (2 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC] into next corner 2CH-SP; CH 1; *3 DC into 1 CH-SP; CH 1*, repeat * to * one time more; (3 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC) into last corner 2CH-SP; DC into last 4 ST; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.
  • Step 5- CH 3; DC into next 8 ST; (2 DC; 1 TR; 2 DC) into corner TR ST; DC into next 15 DC until next corner; (2 DC; 1 TR; 2 DC) into corner TR ST; DC into next 15 DC until next corner; (2 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC] into next corner 2CH-SP; CH 1; *3 DC into 1 CH-SP; CH 1*, repeat * to * two times; (3 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC) into last corner 2CH-SP; DC into last 6 ST; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH made at the beginning.
  • Step 6- CH 3; DC into next 10 ST; (2 DC; 1 TR; 2 DC) into corner TR ST; DC into next 19 DC until next corner; ; (2 DC; 1 TR; 2 DC) into corner TR ST; DC into next 19 DC until next corner; (2 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC] into next corner 2CH-SP; CH 1; *3 DC into 1 CH-SP; CH 1*, repeat * to * three times; (3 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC) into last corner 2CH-SP; DC into last 8 ST; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH made at the beginning.
