This is the first time I made shorts for everyday use. The outcome looks so cute to flaunt.
Since I made them for myself the pattern instructions are for waist 30 inches.
I am in such awe of this clothing piece, that I vow to make many more in different patterns in multiple sizes.

Instructions
Gauge information-
Size: S-M
Hook size 3 mm (UK 11). Make a swatch in order to confirm the right fit by making 24 single crochets x 27 rows = 10 cm / 4” in width and 10 cm / 4” height.
To make this crop top you will need following material
- Cotton fingering weight yarn 250g
- Hook- 3mm
- Scissors
- Markers to mark important stitches
- Yarn needle to weave in the ends
Symbols for reading the pattern instructions–
- ch sp – Chain space
- ch st – Chain stitch
- sl st – Slip Stitch
- hdc – Half double crochet
- sc – Single crochet in stitch
- dc – Double crochet in stitch
- RS – Right Side
- WS – Wrong Side
- Yoh – yarn over hook
- Fphdc – Front post half double crochet
- Bphdc – Back post half double crochet
Important notes on the shorts
- First we work the waist band and then body of the shorts. The bottom edge is worked later. We work in the round top down.
- After waist band is worked, the piece is worked in continuous round without joining with sl st. Make sure to replace the middle back marker and the markers on sides, on the last st worked in each round.
Pattern instructions:
Waist band
- Ch 200. Sl st to join. Place marker on this mid back st. Ch2, hdc in each st, sl st to join.
- Ch2, *fphdc, bphdc*, repeat * to * till end of the round. Sl st to join. Repeat this round 4 times more. Waist band done.
Body of shorts
- Body – Round 1 – Ch2, hdc in each st, sl st to join.
- Round 2 to 7– ch 2, work hdc in each st. Do not sl st to join instead place marker on last st of the round and continue with the next round. Repeat this round 5 times more. The piece measures approximately 4cm now.
- (Increase) Place markers on st no. 50 and st no. 150. We will increase 1 hdc on both sides of marker st every 3rd round. Total 4 hdc increased in each increase round. Shift the marker up with each round.
- Round 8 – ch 2, work hdc in each st until one st before first marker. *Work 2hdc in that st, 1hdc in marker st, 2 hdc in next st.* Work 1 hdc in each st until one st before next marker. Repeat * to *. Work hdc in each of remaining st. Total hdc= 204
- Round 9 and 10 – ch 2, work hdc in each st until end of the round. Total hdc= 204
- Round 11,14,17,20,23,26,29- Repeat round 8.
- Round 12&13, 15&16, 18&19, 21&22, 24&25, 27&28, 30 to 38- Repeat round 9.
- Total hdc at the end of round 38 = 232
Divide for legs
- Place markers on 5 stitches on the right and left of the mid back marker. There are 10 stitches to be worked.
- Place another two markers of the exactly opposite side to join the end of the gusset made.
- Now sl st till any one of the marker near mid back. Turn, ch2, work hdc in next 9 st till second marker.
- Turn, ch2, hdc in next 9 st. Work this step for another 14 times. Cut the yarn.
- Stitch the last row worked to the opposite side.
Legs
- With right side of the shorts facing outward, join yarn where the gusset was stitches to other side.
- Ch2, work 26 hdc st over the gusset, and work 1 hdc in each st till the end of the round. Sl st to join.
- (Increase) Ch2, work hdc in each st till one st remains before side marker, *Work 2hdc in that st, 1hdc in marker st, 2 hdc in next st.* Work 1 hdc in each st till end of the round. Sl st to join. Work hdc in each of remaining st.
- Ch2, work hdc in each st till end, sl st to join. Work this round 5 times more.
- Repeat the same for the other leg.
Bottom edge
- Ch3, *skip 1 st, dc, ch1, dc * in next st. Repeat * to * till one st remains in this round. Sl st to join.
- Repeat the same for second leg.
Waist band fastening
- With two strands of yarn Ch 300.
- Starting mid front over the second row from above, thread the tie under front post hdc and over back post hdc throughout the second round.
- Put some beads on both ends of the tie made.
- Tie the two ends in the mid front
You brand new everyday shorts are done!
