This is a beginner friendly pattern. The only stitch one needs to know is the humble double crochet stitch.

The top is mostly a square shape with square neck and crochet edge.

Difficulty level – Beginner
The pattern is written using US crochet stitch terminology. Here hook size 4 mm (US G/6 or UK 8) is used. The tension is 16 double crochet x 8 rows = 10 cm/4” in width and 10 cm/4” height.
The hook size is only a guide. Change to a larger/ smaller hook size, if there are too many/ few stitches in 4″ or 10cm gauge.
To make this top you will need following material
- Cotton DK weight yarn – Laura knitting cotton- colour light grey (M) 350g ,dark purple (S1) – 150g, light purple (S2) – 50g
- Hook- 4mm
- Scissors
- Markers to mark important stitches
- Yarn needle to weave in the ends
- Measuring tape
Symbols for reading the pattern instructions–
- SL ST- Slip stitch
- ST- Stitch
- YO = Yarn over
- CH= chain stitch
- CH-SP = Chain space
- SC= Single crochet in stitch
- DC= Double crochet in stitch
- RS = Right Side
- LS = Left Side
- BEG = Beginning of row
- M- Main colour
- S1- Secondary colour number 1.
- S2- Secondary colour number 2.
- Incomplete DC- YO, insert hook in ST, YO and pull through, YO and pull through 2 loops. Keep the DC incomplete by skipping last pull through 2 loops.

Finished measurements:
Chest measures 92 cm or 36” and full length 56 cm or 22”.
The garment will tend to measure more when held up, hence measure the final length of the piece while holding it up.
Short overview:
Front and back pieces are worked back and forth separately, bottom up. Then right shoulder and left shoulder are worked. The garment is sewn together after both sides are done. Lastly bobble edging is done on the sleeves and simple single crochet edging is done on the nech and bottom.
Written instructions:
- With yarn (M) CH 79.
- Row 1- DC in the 5th ch from hook, DC in every CH ST till end. Total DC ST- 76.
- Row 2- Turn, CH3, *skip 1 ST, 2DC in the next ST*, repeat * to * till end of the row until one ST remains. DC in the last ST. Total V-ST – (37) + 2 DC at BEG and end of row. (Number of dc will remain constant until we reach armhole)
- Repeat the Row 2 until the piece measures in length 37 cm or until desired length is reached. Armhole length is reached. Place markers on both ends of the row.
- Colour scheme-
- S1 row – Change yarn to dark purple 🟣. Attach yarn, and repeat instructions for Row 2 for next two rows in dark purple🟣. Cut the yarn.
- S2 row -Attach light purple yarn and work one row with Row 2 instructions. Cut the yarn.
- Repeat Colour scheme instructions 2 times more.
- Work last two rows in S1 with Row 2 instructions.
- With RS facing you, place marker on first ST, skip 10 V-ST, place second marker on next ST. This area represents where we will work one shoulder. Turn the piece to WS, place marker on first ST, skip 10 V-ST, place second marker on next ST. This area represents where we will work second shoulder. You have four markers on your last row.
- Work next 3 rows with Colour scheme instructions over the marked ST. Do not work over the stitches between 2nd and 3rd marker.
- The piece measures 18 cm from armhole marker. Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.
- Work back piece same as the front piece.
- After you finish both piece they measure appx. 55 cm in length.
Assembly:
- With WS of both front and back piece facing outward, start sewing from bottom of sides of front and back piece edge to edge in the outermost stitches till the armhole length.
- Next sew shoulder seams together stitch by stitch with WS facing outward.
Sleeves edge
- Attach yarn (S1) in the middle ST at armhole. Work SC in first ST, work SC in each ST till the end. Total SC- 56(multiple of 4).
- Pompom edge-
- CH7, work (4) incomplete DC in the 3rd CH from hook. There are 5 ST on hook. YO and pull through all loops. (1st DC cluster made)
- CH3, work (4) incomplete DC in the 3rd CH from hook. There are 5 ST on hook. YO and pull through all loops.(2nd DC cluster made)
- SL ST in the 4th CH ST from base.
- CH4, skip 3 ST, SC in the 4th ST.
- Repeat the instructions for pompom edge. Total pompoms 14 times.
- SL ST into the first CH ST, cut the yarn and weave in the ends.
- Repeat the same for second side.
Neck and bottom edge:
- Attach yarn (M) on any side, CH1, work SC in each ST. (While working on inside of neck, work 2 SC over the body of the DC ST as shown in the video)
- SL ST to join. Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.
